Kisumu to Launch Free WiFi

 Kisumu County will launch Free Wifi for its residents on May 11, The County Government and The State House Digital team have announced.
Governor Jack Ranguma immediately said that his administration would use the connectivity to ensure innovations take the centre stage in Public Service delivery.
“Kisumu will become the 4th town in Africa to have a free Wi-Fi and we will ensure we use it to transform our county into a Heath and medical hub in the Sub-saharan region, ” Ranguma said.
Adding, ” every ministry in the County executive will be required to ensure service delivery improves in their departments” State House Digital director Dennis Itumbi said the launch of a citizen engagement programme that leverages on mobile and web based technology would improve delivery of public services.



“We will deliver an improved website for the county, a digital impact centre, a feedback mobile application, Sauti Yetu and those initiatives will ensure Internet works for the populace empowerment.

The United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC), the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), African Institute for Health and Development (AIHD) and Infonet Africa committed to partner to ensure an enhanced citizen experience. In his remarks, the GovernKisumu County Governor's Christmas charity ballted that apart from the numerous programmes and actions being undertaken by the County, current harsh economic times demand more smarter, efficient and effective ways to deliver public services.
“The use of innovation is not an option, but a must, we welcome the initiative,” said the Governor.
Kisumu will be the second major town to connect to Free WIfi initiative after Nakuru, that will be launched on Sunday, March 30 2014. - PSCU
