KISUMU COUNTY WILL SUPPORT REGIONAL TRADE,SAY RANGUMA

Kisumu County governor Jack Ranguma has pledged that the county administration will support regional trade.

He said the city will use its strategic location in the East African Commun...ity (EAC) to ease trade. Addressing concerns of the business community during a stakeholders’ dinner last weekend, Mr Ranguma outlined pillars around which the county will make its policies to achieve the objective.

“We want to make policies that will ensure our businesses become engines for creating jobs,” he said.

He said policies on agriculture, industrialisation, tourism and technology would be formulated to remove some of the barriers that have discouraged investors from setting up businesses in Kisumu.

news KISUMU Police hunt suspects in Sh6.5 million G4S car raid

police in Nyanza are investigating an incident where more than Sh6.5 million went missing after police and guards transporting the cash from a bank in Busia to Kisumu abandoned a vehicle and went missing.

G4S officials say there was about Sh6.5 million being transported in the G4S van.

"The estimated amount of cash contained in the vehicle is Sh6.5 million, part of this has been recovered, G4S staff and Administration Police are assisting with investigations," said G4S in a statement to media houses. This is contrary to media reports which had put the value at Sh40 million.

The Ugenya OCPD Josphat Muturi Ndung'u told Nation that the money belonging to KCB was robbed after a police chase car accompanying the G4S car broke down at Ugunja.

NEWS KISUMU-Kisumu seeks Sh5bn to plug budget hole

Kisumu County expects the central government to fund a huge part of its projected Sh6 billion budget as it seeks to strengthen its revenue streams.

The county treasury anticipates the national government will chip in Sh5 billion since its current revenue estimates suggest that it can only generate about Sh978 million.

Chief finance officer Cephas Odhiambo said the county would take over and streamline revenue sources previously managed by the local authorities.

Mr Odhiambo was speaking at a Kisumu hotel during a public forum aimed at seeking views from the public regarding the budget.

Some of the sources of revenue are property rates, single business permits, market fees, street and bus parking fees as well as trade licensing.

Governor Jack Ranguma said they would rely on the central government since they were still grappling with transiti

KISUMU Ranguma joins hands with commisioner

KISUMU Ranguma joins hands with commisioner
KISUMU governor Jack Ranguma has said he has no problem working with the provincial administration as long as they are within their lines of operation. Ranguma said he does not fear working along with the county commissioner since their offices are constitutionally recognised.
Addressing the centenary celebrations for the National Council of Churches of Kenya in Kisumu, Ranguma said mutual working relations will only be viable if he is respected by the county commissioner.
“The constitution recognises both offices since the national government which they represent its interest in the counties controls over 85 per cent of the revenue.
“I'm ready to work with the commissioner as long as we respect the roles of every office. The two offices are entrenched in the constitution,” said Ranguma. He said his office will have parallel officers from the grassroots to work in line with the national government for the benefit of residents.
“There are things that governors will not do and are preserved for the national government. We want to ensure we work together with them,” said Ranguma.
Ranguma was speaking even as NCCK regional representative led by Bishop Joshua Koyo called for an end to squabbles between governors and commissioners at the county level. Koyo said the two arms of government should settle down for development.

KISUMU -GOVERNOR FAULTED ON SECURITY & EDUCATION

KISUMU -GOVERNOR FAULTED ON SECURITY & EDUCATION

Kisumu County Assembly members poked holes in the governor’s speech delivered during the official opening of the House.

A number of them felt Governor Jack Ranguma neglected fundamental issues, which have haunted the county for long. They said the governor did not explain how he would achieve the plans he has for the county.

West Kisumu ward r...epresentative Paul Odhiambo said in security in Kisumu, particularly in the slums, was not captured in the governor’s speech. He said a spate of criminal activities have been reported in his ward, forcing residents to live in fear.

“Will entrepreneurs have confidence to invest in this county if security is ignored,” posed Odhiambo.

He told the House that one person was shot dead while another is still hospitalised after gangs attacked them last week.
