RESIDENTS of Kisumu have been asked to invest in hotel industry to boost tourism in the county.
Commerce and tourism executive Rose Kisia, told locals to engage in housing business to meet demand for accommodation.
“If you invest in hotel industry and real estate, your level of income will be boosted,” Kisia said.
She said the business is lucrative because of the presence of local tourists.
“Our county has abundant opportunitieswhich we can exploit to create wealth and jobs to the youth,” she said.
Kisia encouraged the residents to construct five-star hotels on the tourist sites to boost revenue.
Some of the tourist sites are Impala Sanctuary Park, Kit Mikayi, Luanda Magere, National museum, Ndere Island National park, Kisumu Bird Sanctuary and Hippo Point
She disclosed the county government is currently assessing existing hotels to rate them.
Kisia said lack of professional services and conferences facilities in the hotels hinders growth of tourism sector.
